Even though "The Amazing Spider-Man" won't hit theaters until July 3, 2012, the studio is already mapping out plans for a sequel.
The new, revamped Spider-Man film, directed by Marc Webb, stars Andrew Garfield as the socially-awkward Peter Parker. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the studio has already lined up James Vanderbilt, who worked on the screenplay for the new Spidey film, to begin work on its sequel.
“I think it speaks volumes about our confidence in what we are seeing on the new film and our desire to move quickly on the next installment,” a Sony Pictures Studios exec told Deadline.
Friday, Sony set a May 2, 2014 release date for the sequel. No other films have been scheduled for that particular release date as of yet, but it will be interesting to see who dares to battle it out against "Spider-Man" for a box office win.
