West Indies beat Bangladesh by nine wickets in their World Cup Group B match here today.
bowling display by West Indies and were bowled out for a meagre 58 in their World Cup Group B match here today.
Fast bowler Kemar Roach (3/19), Darren Sammy (3/21) and Sulieman Benn (4/18) produced a lethal cocktail of pace and spin to bowl out Bangladesh for the lowest total of the 2011 World Cup in just 18.5 overs.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh batting lineup fell like a house of card as beside Junaid Siddique (25) and Mohammad Ashraful (11) none of the batsmen could even reach double figures and were bundled out for the fourth lowest total in World Cup history.
A pall of gloom descended on the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium as wickets kept tumbling in the face of some disciplined bowling produced by West Indies.
Opening the innings, Tamim Iqbal failed to give Bangladesh any kind of start as he was caught for a naught in the third ball of the innings when he nicked one from Roach to second slip.
First down Junaid Siddique showed some resistance slashing Roach to the third-man boundary and sending Benn through the covers for a couple of fours.
But the other opener, Imrul Kayes was sent packing by Sammy when he poked at an away going delivery only to give an easy catch to wicketkeeper Devon Thomas in the fourth over.
Sammy picked up Mushfiqur Rahim in his next over, caught at mid wicket by Ramnaresh Sarwan to reduce Bangladesh to 25 for three in just 5.1 overs.
Siddique tried to hang around but Roach trapped him in front of wicket by his lethal yorker.
Siddique's dismissal brought skipper Shakib Al Hasan on the crease and he started off well with a four through covers.
But the Bangladesh skipper failed to negotiate the slow orthodox spin bowling off Benn and ended up losing his wicket.
At 41/5, former skipper Ashraful joined Raqibal Hasan (4) and was off the mark with a boundary at the covers. But Sammy came back to haunt Bangladesh as he dismissed Raqibul Hasan, caught at point by Pollard.
Ashraful picked up another four behind point off Sammy but Benn got rid off Naeem Islam as Bangladesh slumped to 56 for seven in 16.2 overs.
Roach then came back to remove Ashraful as West Indies burst into celebration and Benn then removed Shafiul Islam and last man Rubel Hossain in the space of three balls to bring an end to the Bangladeshi innings.
