'R' for Rajinikant, 'R' for 'Robot', 'R' for 'Rana' and 'R' for … Rekha! The South Indian superstar, who's biased towards the letter 'R' ever since 'Robot' became his biggest hit, has now convinced Rekha to join the cast of his new mega production, 'Rana'.
According to a reliable source, "Rajini considers Rekha and the letter 'R' lucky for him. 'Robot' is his biggest hit to date. And he was keen that the title of his new film starts with the letter 'R'. Coincidentally, his director in 'Rana' is named Ravi (K Ravi Kumar). Rajinikant wanted his co star too to be someone with 'R'."
Apparently the timeless diva was hesitant to sign on the dotted line, since she had some reservations about her role in the film which stars Deepika Padukone as the leading lady. But Raijini was insistent and even flew down to Mumbai convince Rekha, who has previously been paired with him in 'Phool Bane Angaaray' and 'Bulandi'.
"Rajini assured Rekha that her role would not overlap with Deepika," says the source. Rajini plays a triple role in 'Rana', out of which one is a cameo. While Ms. Padukone will romance the younger Rajini, Rekha is expected to star alongside the older Rajinikant, in a different time zone.
Rekha has finally given her nod of approval and the project which will be made in Tamil and Telugu is all set to go on the floors in April. The graceful actress is thrilled to be starring opposite Rajini again. "The actress who herself is a big Rajinikant fan, is very excited about her role," reveals the source.
