Former world No. 1 Justine Henin had a successful return to tennis after an 18-month absence by beating Flavia Pennetta 6-4, 6-4 to win an exhibition event today in Charleroi, Belgium, Agence France-Presse reported.
The 27-year-old beat Belgian compatriot Kirsten Flipkens in the semifinal of the Women Tennis Trophy yesterday before today’s meeting with the Italian ranked 12th by the WTA Tour.
Henin announced her retirement in May last year after winning seven Grand Slam titles.
She’s due to make her official return to the WTA circuit in a Brisbane tournament starting Jan. 3, 15 days before the Australian Open in Melbourne, AFP added.
